*This day marks the first of the three days of solemn remembrance of the events leading up to and immediately following the crucifixion of Jesus. The English word, "Maundy" comes from the Latin mandatum, which means "commandment." On the last night before his betrayal and arrest, Jesus gave his disciples a new commandment to love one another as he had loved them (John 13:34).

The Friday before Easter marks the day the crucifixion of Jesus is remembered. We will observe this through a service called "Facing the Shadows."
This is the day for celebrating the risen Christ! Worship services will be filled with uplifting music and a message about the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
Brenda Clark, a member of 1st Church has written a devotional series she wanted to share with others. We're making those devotions (which begin March 2nd) available in a variety of ways. You can have them emailed to you each day, find them on Facebook and twitter or on 1stmaryville.blogspot.com .

Starting, February 10th (Ash Wednesday) and continuing through the season of Lent sermons will focus on the seven last statements of Jesus while he was on the cross. Each statement tells us something about Jesus and together they paint a powerfully beautiful picture of what was on Jesus’ heart as he died. As we journey with Jesus in his dying moments, we will hear how his words from the cross continue to have meaning for us today.
