*This year we are asking for certain items in April, then the rest in May.
Please look below for more information.
The Hands-on Mission Project is organized by the Holston Conference of the UMC and it is a mission that grows each year. In the Smoky Mountain District (where 1st UMC is located) food buckets are filled to be taken to Zimbabwe. Other districts provide school kits, home buckets, sewing kits and other versions of the food buckets.
The food buckets collected and packed at 1st UMC will be going to the Ishe Anesu Project in Zimbabwe. Ishe Anesu means "God with Us." The mission is an after-school project designed to provide education to the underprivileged children, orphans, and the poorest of the poor.
1st UMC's goal in 2018 is to pack 200 buckets!
You can start collecting your items, but please don't bring them to the church until the days assigned.
Items collected on Sundays, April 22nd & 29th
- 1 bag dried pinto beans (2 lbs.)
- 1 bag plain white rice (2 lbs.)
- 1 box old-fashioned oats (18 oz. or less)
Items collected on Sundays, May 20th & 27th
- 1 bag sugar (4-5 lbs.)
- 1 bag Self-rising flour (4-5 lbs.)
- 1 bottle cooking oil (48 oz. or less)
- 1 package powdered milk (10 oz. or less) You can buy boxes of 3 oz. packages
If you would like to "purchase" a bucket for the hands-on mission bucket, the cost is $35. Just make checks payable to 1st UMC and write "mission bucket" in the memo line of your check.
This year instead of asking for you to buy canned hams and Splenda, the Outreach Team will be purchasing them in bulk.
