new here?

visit our welcome centers

When you visit 1st Church on a Sunday Morning our greeters and ushers are ready to answer your questions or point you in the right direction.  We also have two Welcome Centers where volunteers can help you.

These are  located in the area behind the Sanctuary on the Upper Level near the front doors of the church and in Asbury Hall (gym) on the Lower Level.

Just look for the large "New Here" banners.  If you are a 1st Time Guest, this is where you will pick up your welcome gift following the worship service.

Our 1st Time at 1st section has more information on what to expect when you visit, what we believe and an overview of what we do.

1ST TIME AT 1ST

1st umc 101

One way we work to help Guests become more familiar with what we do and what we believe is by offering a class we call 1st UMC 101.  We usually hold the class on Sunday Mornings a couple of timeseach year, but you certainly don't have to wait until 1st UMC 101 to learn more about 1st Church and the United Methodist Church.

If we are not offering 1st UMC 101 you can always direct your questions to our Minister of Discipleship,  Rev. Nathan Irwin at nirwin@1stchurch.org or 865-982-1273.

special events

Sometimes worship services can be intimidating to guests so it's a good thing that church can happen anywhere.  All four of our worship services here are streamed live online.  We also have special events throughout the year that are perfect for checking out 1st Church without having to worry about what might happen in worship.

These include:

  • BBQ & Bluegrass,
  • the Fall Festival at 1st,
  • the Alternative Gift Fair,
  • the Churchwide Thanksgiving Dinner,
  • the First Future Messfest (for youth),
  • events just for kids
  • and on and on and on.
