Conversation Matters: The Power of Life & Death
The Death Penalty stirs up debate in many circles. And whether people support it or want to see it come to an end, the issue may be far more complex than people think.
Rev. Anna Lee, a pastor at Cokesbury United Methodist Church in Knoxville, spent a couple of semesters in seminary attending a class at Riverbend Maximum Security prison. Half the students were from Vanderbilt Divinity School, the other half were people imprisoned at Riverbend.
During this time, Anna learned the stories of many death row inmates and also found out that the man imprisoned for killing her Great Uncle was also at Riverbend.
This experience ultimately shaped Anna's views on the Death Penalty. On September 25th, Anna leads a discussion on the death penalty in Tennessee and what it means to shape these decisions over the power or life and death.
